Anwesha Tribal Arts & Crafts, a non-governmental Handicrafts development organisation was established in 1990. It got registered in the same year under SR Act, 1860. It was founded as an association of trained social workers and focused initially on promotion of social work practice in Orissa. Besides this, it has been working for the disadvantaged and marginalized communities of the society with sincerity and commit­ment from its’ inception.


Initially, it conducted training, consultancy, documentation and research aiming at enhancing the standard of social work practice. It continued to extend professional support to Development Organizations, conduct training programmes and guide social workers in practice. Then, it got into policy research, Advocacy and promoted issue-based networks of civil society organizations for sustained work.


From the inception, it has been taking of various development projects for tribals, dalits, rural poor, artisans, drought and disaster affected people, displaced persons, vulnerable children and other disadvantaged groups such as people affected by development projects and environment pollution. Child Right’s and Gender issues assumed special importance.


Sustainable livelihood for the rural poor has been one of our main thrust and area or work. Besides natural resource management and land-based livelihood, livelihood opportunities in non-farm sector are explored and promoted for the landless and artisan groups.  Due to the rich cultural heritage and traditional skills, the Orissa handloom and handicrafts has great market potential and livelihood options for rural people if promoted keeping the demands of the present time.
